Students will recognize towns in rural Saskatchewan, develop mapping skills, develop vocabulary, develop numeracy skills, develop creative writing skills, and participate in a variety of independent learning activities. Additional reading includes "A Prairie Alphabet" by J. Cugnet-Ballatyne, with journal word cards, class dictionary, and word search activities; as well as "The Auction" by J. Andrews, with task cards and more stories activities.
About Reserve Community of Saskatchewan:
A Reserve Community is designed to supplement Saskatchewan Education's Grade Two Social Studies curriculum for classroom studies about the family and the community. The nucleus of this unit is the story, "Cody's Community". The story includes the concepts of identity, location, tradition, responsibility, transportation, occupation, community services and political structure. During the course of our unit, students will understand that a reserve is a community of First Nation's families; a reserve provides services to its residents; a reserve has a political structure; reserves have a history; and much more.
About Saskatchewan: First 100 Years:
September 1, 2005 was the 100th anniversary of the province of Saskatchewan. While learning about the first 100 years of the province, you'll find black line masters for poems, songs, rebus chants, activity sheets, student bookmaking, hands-on centre activities, and a storyboard story. See the Bibliography and Resources to find Web sites for pictures of the Saskatchewan flag and other provincial emblems and to find a list of great storybooks by Saskatchewan authors. Contents include: Sticker Sheets, Name Tags, and The Welcome Basket — Storyboard Story.
This Canada Set provides a teacher and student section with activities, big book assembly, sequencing activity, word cards, word search, task cards, storybooks, poetry, art activity, listening activity, rebus chant, creative writing, bookmaking, song, chant, hands-on activities, follow-up activities, and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.
