About the Novel:
The Old Man and the Sea is a Pulitzer Prize winning story about an old fisherman and his battle with a giant marlin. Santiago, an old Cuban fisherman, has gone 84 days without catching a single fish. Hoping to end his unlucky streak, Santiago decides to sail out deep into the Gulf to fish. A few hours pass until a large marlin takes his bait. The marlin proves a worthy match for Santiago, as he struggles to keep the fish on the line. Two days and two nights pass, but the battle rages on. Santiago begins to feel appreciation for the fish, believing that no one will be worthy of eating him. On the third day, and with two exhausted parties, the battle is won. The Old Man and the Sea is a classic tale of one man's struggle with nature.

Product Reviews
This was extremely helpful last year, which was the first time I had taught the novel. I am using it again this year, but with a few tweaks here and there. Thank you so much, it was a life saver last year, and a great place for me to start this year.
Great resource, really helped me connect the book to themes in my students lives.
Amazing resource
Perfect for my freshmen. Thank you for your excellent work.
This was a life saver when I had students who opted not to read a full class novel and needed an alternative assignment. I used this guide for Old Man and the Sea instead and those students were able to still participate in class without me having to plan an entire second unit.
Excellent resource. Used this with my adult ESL students and it was a great supplement to the novel and helped them comprehend it deeper. Thanks!
Easy to implement. I left this unit for my sub while I was on maternity leave.
Such a great resource that coincides with the book. I used this with a one-on-one tutor and it had so many different wonderful activities to enhance the learning.
